Ron Bluemer will lead a presentation on his most recent book “Rally Round the Flag: the Impact of the Civil War on the Illinois Valley” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 29 at the Ladd Public Library

Bluemer’s book and presentation focuses on the experience of Civil War volunteers, primarily farm boys, from the La Salle County area based mainly on their preserved letters, which provide firsthand accounts of camp life, battles and the hardships of war in the 19th century.
A native of the south side of Chicago, Bluemer moved to the Illinois Valley with his wife, Peggy, in 1967.
He served with the U.S. Air Force Security Service during the Vietnam War era.
